It's been a LONG time since I did anything with this blog. I was thinking about the movies I saw last year and decided I would sit down and rank them all and give my opinions on them.
The one rule I used for this list is that it has to be a movie that was FRESH in theaters in 2025. So even though I saw Star Wars Episode III, Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in theaters, they will not be counted in this list.
This is primarily because Landon is growing up to be quite the fan of movies and he loves experiencing them at theaters.
I will try not to spoil much, but no guarantees.
At any rate, here we go!!!
#11 - Fantastic Four: First Steps
This was one of the few movies that I knew where it was going to go on the list as soon as I wrote down all the movies that I saw last year. It was just a very mediocre movie. I didn't really hate it, but I also didn't find it very interesting. I can recall the basics of the story and what happened, but nothing in it stood out enough for me to remember the small details in it.
#10 - Superman
This one was another one I was pretty certain was going to be pretty low on the ranking. It's always been hard for me to get into Superman as a character. Cause unless you're from Krypton or you have kryptonite, you're really not going to stop Superman or give that drama of seeing him get hurt and think that he is vulnerable. I will admit that this one was one of the better Superman movies I've seen recently. I do want to go back to the Christopher Reeve versions, cause I remember enjoying those ones as a kid.
#9 - Lilo and Stitch
This one was tough to place. I enjoyed parts of it, while feeling a bit off with a couple other parts to it. I'm one of the people who wasn't too bothered by the change in the ending. They still showed you a way for the family to still "be together". (Small spoiler if you haven't seen it.) I personally didn't like the fact that they made Dr Jumba more of an outright villain. (Another spoiler) However, the movie was really well cast, the characters fit in really well and overall it was close enough to the animated one for me that I enjoyed it more than some of the other live action remakes.
#8 - Thunderbolts
This one was another one that kinda just pulled even when I considered what I liked and what I didn't about it. It's always an interesting dynamic when you take characters that you're accustomed to seeing as "villains" and watching them try to do good. I do enjoy quite a few of these characters. David Harbour plays Red Guardian really well. My two main issues is that one of the characters gets taken out quite early in the movie. (Spoiler, yeah, but I won't disclose who) Then the final battle isn't really what you might expect and I was sort of looking for a bit more from the story. Maybe that's a personal feeling about it, but it's why I ranked it here!
#7 - Captain America: Brave New World
I honestly wanted this one to be better. I enjoyed the series, "Falcon and the Winter Soldier" and I have really enjoyed Anthony Mackie as Falcon. I wanted to see how he took over the Captain America mantle. I think he did pretty good, but the movie itself was just mediocre. One thing I did enjoy was the villain. I am very intrigued when you run into villains who actually have an understandable motive. You feel stuck between, "They do have a good point for believing the way they do." and "Your methods to handle your situation are simply what's wrong." It will be interesting to see how the MCU handles the fallout from this movie, if they do. They may elect to ignore it, but only time will tell.
#6 - Five Nights at Freddys 2
Now we're starting to get into the realm of movies that I really enjoyed. For what it is worth, Landon dubbed this one his personal favorite of 2025. I will admit that I have never sat down and played any Five Nights at Freddys game. I have watched gameplay, so I kind of understand the lore of the series. Landon has been very willing to fill me in where needed. This sequel did a pretty good job to sticking to the feeling of the first one, while introducing new storylines and characters. They also leave it open at the end, so there's a good chance we will get a Five Nights at Freddys 3.
#5 - A Minecraft Movie
This one was a shocker, honestly. I've been aware of Minecraft for a long time, but I've never really gotten into sitting down and playing it myself. The only time I will sit down and play is when we play on the Disney World mod that we have downloaded. Basically it's Walt Disney World created in the world of Minecraft. You can go shop at the stores, meet the characters, (including getting their autographs) and even ride attractions.
On to the movie. I really enjoyed the cast. I will still say this is my favorite Jason Momoa role out of anything I've seen him in. Landon actually wanted to see this one twice. I consider ourselves very lucky, as both viewings were more on the calm side. That means we didn't have to deal with huge disruptions at "Chicken Jockey."
#4 - Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Once again this one was another pleasant surprise. Usually movies start to really decline in production quality by the third film. (With a few exceptions) This one was still really well done, even compared against the other two. Shadow is a great character and they did a quality job in introducing him to the Sonic film universe. I think Jim Carrey finally hit his stride, even playing two characters this time.
#3 - Chainsaw Man The Movie: The Reze Arc
So, just to address it, yes, the top 3 movies are all the same genre. Landon was the first one to get into anime, then he introduced me to it and I've since watched several movies and series with him. The top 3 movies all have another thing in common: They are either continuation of seasons of the anime or are episodes of the anime presented in movie format. Chainsaw Man was a really exciting movie. Once the action starts, it really doesn't stop until the final battle is done. So you spend a lot of the time on the edge of your seat, wondering what is going to happen next.
#2 - Jujutsu Kaisen: Hidden Inventory/Premature Death
This one was my introduction to Jujutsu Kaisen. It works because it is actually a prequel to where the series itself starts in season 1. I explain it kind of like an origin story much like "X-Men Origins", where you see two people who work together on a mission and upon completion, they realize that they're actually going to go down different paths. This sets them up to be in opposition to each other in the future. It is a heartwrencher at parts. I ended up finding it on blu-ray at Wal-Mart and bought it, that's how much I enjoyed this one.
#1 - Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle
Before I went to this movie, I had watched 5-6 episodes of the anime. So I had a little understanding about what the series was about. However, I can say sitting down and watching this movie I was 100% blown away. Even not getting the importance of the scenes that I was watching, (some of which I do understand now) I was in awe about everything about this movie. The animation is so clean and colorful. The music is epic and matches what's going on perfectly. The characters are interesting and compelling and the story? Wow......this one ended and I was ready for part 2, but we're going to have to wait until 2027 for it to get here. Then we won't get the actual finale until 2029. I am already waiting for this one to come out in physical media, cause I know I'm going to buy it. I still often watch the trailer and it still gives me chills watching it.
There they are, the movies I saw in 2025, ranked in order. Let me know what yours were and if you've seen any of these, I'd like to hear your opinions!
